I'm rather sympathetic to the oil industry generally, but I admit that's pretty tough. Exxon seems to be doing a lot of things to maximize its short-term profits, but it's really hurting itself in the long run. I don't know if they're priming to sell, or what.
I agree with you that oil companies often get a bad rap, and I think a "windfall profits tax" (as some are suggesting) would be disastrous. But some of this stuff seemed crazy. I wonder if its just Exxon, or if this is a widespread practice.
