It occurred to me the other day that evolution is not just a theory, but a philosophy. It's not just an explanation about how things might have come to be, but an entire worldview - a way of looking at all of life, and its meaning, purpose, and value.
When I mentioned that to someone, they said, "Of course." But I don't hear it spoken of that way. Maybe if we started to say that more and more, it might help people think a little differently and realize that as a philosophy it is incompatible with theology, which is an entirely different worldview.

The Problem of Inversion

God is love.
Love is God.
The first is truth.
The second is sin and seems to me what has become the driving force behind much of what is happening in our culture today. Love has become the god of many. In the name of "love" almost anything is permissible and everything becomes permissible.

Regression into Paganism
St. Augustine asked what pagans did when they did not succeed at resisting vices (or even try to). Very simply, they attributed them to God! And so they made a god for lust, Venus, a god for violence, Mars, and so on, feeling themselves justified in practicing these vices. The same thing is happening today with regard to Christ, and it is one of the most disturbing signs of regression into paganism. There is no weakness or obsession in modern culture that is not somehow attributed to Jesus in a way that makes people feel justified in cultivating it.

This 'n That
Just a few thoughts . . .
#1: The Iranian president (whose name is too hard to spell) goes to the UN and tries to sell their nuclear program under the guise that they are environmentalists. Geesh.
#2: I love my brothers in office. The best.
#3: A great weekend. Dr. Francisco is knowledgeable, engaging, and a true blessing to our church. His teaching to use this weekend will be posted on our church web site soon. Check for it.
